Hi folks, someday I would like a nice wall to tile thats square with minimal cuts..or a floor the same...so far in my tiling career it has not once been like that... heres a new one for you...

covered (roof only) outside area attached to house. Currently tiled (and btw they are ceramic non frost or heat proof etc) for a few years, solid base client wants me to tile onto ..(yes did warn about tiling on to tile/non weather proof etc) in the middle of this patio area is a drain lid which has been previously inlaid with the existing tile. now laying the tile over this I could get it nice and even BUT around the perimiter of this lid it will obviously now have a two tile depth gap..quite unsightly.

Solutions (mine not very good)...

buy a new lid that will hopefully have a rim that will run evenly with the new layer of tiles ...

remove all the tiles and start again (they dont want to btw).

pack the gap with mastick so easily cut out if access required but this would not look particularly attractive and being outside probably impractical.

...

builders solution is to raise the current level of the lid (something I wont touch).

also they were supplying the tiles .. dont you just love it when people see a bargin in B and poo and buy ceramic floor tiles that are not suitable for outside ...

anyone everycome across anything like this?

hello..I now have a builder mate looking at it but for the life of me cant think what they can do.

Just finished a small floor with glass mosaics (b and poo ) ..yup you read it right glass on a floor... they are metalic finished black and looks really good..but for the life of me I couldnt find a grout without sand for a floor... so I spoke with B and poo and they suggested a polymer modified..fair enough.. they dont sell a polymer modified themselves..so the happy punter out there who just buys the normal floor adhesive for mosaics might be in for a shock when its rubbed in...

yes i had the same problem a while back. it was decided that i should just fill the joint with grout and if they ever needed to remove the cover they would rake it all out first. Ive got to say it looked pretty good afterwards ive got a pic round somewhere so i will add it as soon as i can find it. http://www.cmdceramics.com

You're always going to get people trying to short cuts with the cash, and still expect the tiler to produce miracles. I would give them the options and realistic ideas of the finished appearance and let them decide. They really do sound like numpties...
