polished travertine..

Hello sages... Im about to quote on 17sq metres travertine flooring to lay. Its in a new build house on concrete floor (new). Im not sure how long the floor has been down. Im laying with white adhesive and will seal the tiles during laying..before grouting and after grouting. Whilst the floor is new and has no visible cracks in it my concern is that its still settling, I will use a 1 part flexi adhesive and grout but would anyone recommend suggesting ditra matting? or is that overkill? cheers Continue

tiling a drain lid..

Hi folks, someday I would like a nice wall to tile thats square with minimal cuts..or a floor the same...so far in my tiling career it has not once been like that... heres a new one for you... covered (roof only) outside area attached to house. Currently tiled (and btw they are ceramic non frost or heat proof etc) for a few years, solid base client wants me to tile onto ..(yes did warn about tiling on to tile/non weather proof etc) in the middle of this patio area is a drain lid which has been… Continue

Tile cutting problem! any ideas?

I am doing a shower room for a customer and they have a curved shower tray. The tiles are porcelain (40/40's) She wants a clean cut through the tiles to follow the curve of the shower tray with a 5mm grout line. The option of taking the shower tray out, tiling the whole floor and sitting the tray on top of the tiles is out unfortunately. How can I cut a continuous curve across a few tiles and what would be the best type of cutter to use. Continue

Google loves the Tiler Register

Its becoming more aparent every day the popularity of the Tiler Register as each day brings yet more visitors. But just as interesting is Google rapid indexing of the sites content, take a look at this image as proof. The second result is the important one, a page one result within 50 minutes. Yes our idea for a social network for tilers has been copied already and I'd have to say that I'm really quite flattered. Not only have they used the same ideas as us, they also used the very same platform and software to launch their site. Maybe it's just the next step on Dan's mission of internet attacks against myself? A bit like his blog post for 'Professional Tilers in Nottingham' that was supposed to take the top spots on Google and strike fear into my very heart - where's that post rank… Continue

Phone number no longer a requirement

I've received word that there were concerns about the requirement for a phone number on tilerspace.com - as a result the requirement has been lifted. It was there just to ensure that you could network as efficiently as possible with other tilers and hopefully potential customers.
