I don't know how many of our thinsets and mortars over here make it over to your shores, but the two I use most are international, so I know you all can get them, and that's Laticrete and Mapei. I'm kind of partial to Laticrete, not only because the…

I've got two saws-- Like Dave, I prefer not to lug a wet saw around, especially in the winter, when that water can get a bit "hard" (!!!), but when needed I've got a Target Supertilematic which will handle even the larger format tiles. Additionally,…

Profile Information

Business Name
Creative Ceramic & Marble
I am based in
Bridgton, Maine
My business covers the following areas
For the most part, the "Lakes Region" of Southern Maine. However, I've been known to travel all over New England to "ply my trade".
I offer the following services
Ceramic Tiling, Geometric Tiling, Mosaics Tiling, Natural Stone Tiling
I have done the following trade training
Apprenticeship
My business offers
Written quotations, Public liability insurance, Written Guarantee, Portfolio available, Trade references, Customer references
I have the following experience
In the trade full time since June 1980, but set my first tile at age 10 in 1967. I started out the first 10 years as a commercial union tile setter. From there, I got involved in high end custom tile work for about 3 years down in South Florida, and it's been my passion since. Although my mainstay is residential work, I also do commercial work from time to time. As I state on my website, I've got extensive experience in everything from mastic to mudset (walls and floors, monolithic as well as prefloated) and just about everything in between. There's not very much in the trade that I HAVEN'T done. All this is verifiable.
My contact number
(207) 939-7245
My website:
http://www.creativeceramicandmarble.com
My business is special because
Although I do alot of work that could just be considered floor or wall covering, I also do alot of work that's so specialized that there aren't very many around who could do it properly, especially when it comes to doing design work.
My favourite tools are made by
Bosch, Marshalltown
Adhesive & Grout brands I use are
Mapei
My favourite tile suppliers are
Daltile
Graniti Fiandre
Cerdomus
Portobello
I'm also going to use this space to voice my dissent in that one of my favorite tool companies (TARGET!!) and my favorite thinset/ grout company (Laticrete) weren't listed in the choices!
Just a few examples of the specialty work I'm talking about:

In this next project, I'm going to show you a couple of unfinished, as well as finished pics, so you can see what went into putting it together. First up is a circular floor where the homeowner didn't want to see any cuts in the mosaic marble where it abutted the pie shaped slab pieces along the perimeter. So what I did was to cut the sheets into single tile rows, and start from a 6 inch disc in the center and work out to a 7 foot diameter:

Upstairs from that was a 1 inch thick fiberglass tub, made specifically for tiling over. There were places in this tub where the tile was put in literally a piece at a time-- probably the most frustrating project I've ever worked on. This tub, by itself, took me 8 days to complete:

Next came the deck. Originally, it was supposed to be slab to match the rest of the marble downstairs, but they ran out of slab, and it was the last in the world, so instead I used the mosaic marble to complete it. I set the mosaic square with the edge of the deck. But this caused problems coming around the tub, being that the edge of the tub wasn't parallel to that edge, the walls were radial, and to top it off, there were several vents between the tub and exterior wall, all of which made it extremely difficult to come around that tub and meet up on the other side:

I've also started cutting and installing logos for area companies, starting with a showroom that gives me alot of my work:

This is just a sample of the kind of work I do.
