I had the task of installing an underfloor heating mat today from uheat, never used them before and thought that they were reasonably competitive in pricing (not much cheaper than what i normaly use) , usually i use warm up. just to let you guys know and to find out what your experiences are.
The uheat elecktra system i used was a bit of a pain for two reasons:
1. arrrrgggghhhh.....opened the box to find its got two cold tails and has to be looped back to the thermostat...aaaaarrrrrggghhh.... it has two cold wires....arrrrrgggghhh..
in this day and age you can do it with only one cold wire......rant over.
2. the heat wire was blue in colour, the fibreglass mesh was blue in colour.....
(uheat take notice) what a nightmare for an installer when cutting the mat for a turn and when stapleing it to the floor......you cant see the difference between the mat and the wire.....dangerous at best......anyway labouring on SLOWLY i managed to get the mat installed checked continuity and resistance and all is well........i have attached a photo so you can see...the bends in the wire are visible but the straight bits.....it may not have any....hehe.
3. NO self adhesive tape on the mat (not a major problem but nice to have!!!!)
These points apart, overall it was of a good standard...... the thermostat supplied is my absolute favorite..... their ref AUBE.....beautiful , minimal, sleek design....IMO.
However, uheat can do better......they are a little cheaper (retail), but are the points raised worth the agro as an installer?......my company will continue with warm up for the time being.....but you never know......if they take on the advice of the contractors responses and develope their product, they may be on to a winner!!!!!!!!!!!
This post is not a major gripe and uheat may provide a system that corrects all the points mentioned...........just thought i would put it out there.....ANYWAY,
do you guys know of an underfloor heating element that is inexpensive, has a single cold wire, you can see the difference between the mesh and the heat wire (easily) and is reasonably priced.....with a good looking bit.....the thermostat....the only part of the system that the consumer actually ever notices????????
