Im getting my moan out of the way first.. tiling three bathrooms all the size of a small ensuite... plumbers never think of the tiler when lining up the toilets and sink pedestals....death by a thousand cuts...
and now to my question...
I am quoting for another job laying floor tiles in a v small bathroom and an ensuite..I need to put down 12 mm ply as these new houses all have that fantastic chipboard in the bathrooms...(not v waterproof)..plus remove the doors to cut them to size once tiles and ply down...
now heres the question...if im pricing by the metre for this job (both rooms are only 2 square meteres) its not worth doing. However there are so many cuts to be done I want to provide an all in price which covers roughly 3 days work...what sort of real price range should I be in?
With a job like that you've got to go with a day rate mate, m2 rates as you stated just don't equate. Instead of overboarding have you thought of using Weber Niv Dur over the chipboard, you can read more here http://www.tilerregister.co.uk/weber-niv-dur.html
If in doubt give weber a call, much quicker than overboarding and it'll only add less than 10mm to the height, you then tank if required and tile within 3 hours of pouring.
I tend leave all cuts to the end in small jobs like that, mark them all and cut them in one go.
for starters all chipboard floors are waterproof just pva and as for the metreage charge a day rate rather than per metre and explain to customer most tilers should look at doing the same we are not here to work for nothing if you loss the job your not at a loss due to 4 mtrs and 3 days work
just read other post he is right but spec on all chipboard flooring is waterproof due to how they are made pva is all you need and make sure it is all secure and not floating
Green chipboard is usually waterproof from what I read, standard chipboard is not waterproof. I wouldn't use PVA with anything to do with tiling, use a specific acrylic primer.
If height is an issue John, you could use 6mm 'no more ply boards' with Weber single part flex, they've tested that combination.
